Thanks to the phone company employees that always seem to post on these types of threads to scare people into thinking they need a land line anymore. Most cell phones these days become locator beacons once 911 is dialed. Also the alarm industry really wants your business and is very helpful in finding a work around (at no cost to you) for the whole land line issue once they realize that they might not have your business without their help. Land lines are an outdated concept whose time has come and gone.

Please remember that if you choose to disconnect your landline 911 does not have your address. My mom was going to disconnect her’s until she learned that 911 would not be able to locate her house in an emergency. Since my mother has a medical condition where 911 is a matter of life and death disconnecting the landline was not a given. So please consider this savings carefully.

If you’re out of your cell phone contract you can drop your current phone and get a cheaper pre-paid one. WalMart currently has prepaid plans for 30 dollars that give you 1000 texts, 1000 minutes, and a 50mb of data transfer.
