    An additional suggestion for the list – charitable donations in someone’s name. They really make an impact and have always been greatly appreciated in my experience. If you’re looking for a nonprofit that offers them check out http://www.ForgottenVoices.org – they provide care for AIDS orphans in southern African countries and do really worthy work.

    The great thing is you don’t have to spend much to make a huge difference!

    Hi – be wary of buying gift certificates e.g. Borders in the UK has just gone bust. You may be better putting cash onto one of those instant visa/mastercard cards and give that instead.
