Pink shoes Julia CCI’m not the only one buying shoes. Despite the recession, sales of heels, boots, and sneakers are doing well as Americans justify sole purchases as necessities.

Cough. My new pink shoes, above, are a necessity? That’s what the NY Times says! Here is their reasoning.

“Most of the shoes being bought today are moderately priced, according to retailers and market researchers,” the story says. “Executives at Macy’s said women’s shoes typically cost half as much as a handbag of similar quality.

“Also, the cost-per-wear of a pair of shoes is far lower than that of a dress or suit, which can only be donned so many times a week before colleagues snicker. And new shoes spruce up old outfits, a cheaper alternative to buying more clothes.”

Other reasons include:

  • shopping for shoes is more fun and less-tiring than trying on clothes
  • trying on shoes doesn’t make you feel fat!
  • buying shoes in bright colors makes you feel happy (pink is an upper!)
  • shoes are a quick way to update your wardrobe
  • when we’re tired of being frugal, we indulge in one thing we love – shoes, of course!

Thanks, Mom!

I wasn’t going to comment on this until I saw a fashion-beauty-type show last night that featured a segment on everything pink, because pink as it turns out, is the “it” color for fall: pink shirt, pink shoes, pink lip gloss, etc.

So your purchase is a winner all around in price, function and style!

Fantastic! I have a lot of other pink items in my wardrobe so I’ll look fashionable without having to update my wardrobe – except for my new pink shoes, of course!

Congratulations for getting these shoes! They’re CUTE… and I’ve always said that shoes and purses “always fit”… there’s less problem going up 1/2 size emotionally in a shoe than going up a size in jeans. I’m a card-carrying member of Discount Shoe Warehouse for that v. reason!

Where did you get those shoes at?? They are really cute!! I haven’t bought any shoes for myself lately, but a while back I got shoes for my kids on clearance between $3-$5 so I stocked up on different sizes since they grow so fast! …..Besides,….can’t beat that price, if only I could find more sales like that!

I bought the shoes at O’My Sole in Marina Del Rey. They are on Glencoe by the 90 entrance. omysole.com

The pink shoes dilemma was actually the very first post I’ve read on your blog. Of course I kept on reading and reading. Great site !

I was in suspense about the shoe purchase, hoping they’d be stretched out perfectly and you’d take them home. It was clear you loved them! Did you get the price down any lower when you picked them up? They are just too cute-nice pick!

LOVE the shoes !! LOVE the site !!

I’m actually going to a home Aerosole shoe party next weekend. I think its weird to have a shoe party, but their shoes/boots are pretty stylin and mostly on sale.
